Game character

A game character refers to a character in a game, especially a video game or role-playing game.

More specifically, it may refer to:

• Player character, a character in a video game or role playing game who is controlled or controllable by a player, and is typically a protagonist of the story told in the course of the game
  • Alternate character, a character in addition to one's "primary" player character
• Non-player character, a character that is controlled by the gamemaster in tabletop role-playing games. In video games and other scenarios with character representations, an NPC is controlled by a program
  • Boss (video gaming), an enemy-based challenge (and a computer-controlled opponent in such challenge), which is found in video games
  • Mob (computer gaming), pronounced /ˈmoʊb/, is a computer-controlled non-player character (NPC) or monster in a computer game such as a role-playing video game, MMORPG, CORPG or MUD
• Secret character, can be a player character or a non-player character in a video game that must be unlocked by completing a goal within the game. A secret character can only be played or interacted with after it has been unlocked, and may not even appear until then
